The 6. SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade Langemarck was formed 22 October 1943 when SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade Langemarck was redesignated.
It was upgraded to 27. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division Langemarck (flämische Nr. 1) on 19 October 1944 by the addition of manpower from the Belgian collaborators from Vlaamsche Wacht and other organizations who had retreated from Belgium along with the German forces.
